Why Solve Bird Problems…
Man truly has a love-hate relationship with birds.
Considered by most to be one of nature’s beautiful
creatures, birds have recently come to be known
as carriers of dangerous diseases, and agents of
destruction of man-made structures.
Birds, Droppings and Nests Carry and Spread Horrible
Diseases…
Diseases spread by birds are common place. They
are responsible for respiratory ailments, viral
infections and food poisoning.
Droppings and Nests Host Nasty Parasites…
Diseases carried by the birds themselves are only
half of the problem. Most birds and their nests
host nasty parasites like ticks, fleas and mites
which act as vectors and spread bird diseases directly
to humans and animals. They are persistent pests,
and cannot be permanently removed until the bird
problem itself is removed.
Pest Birds Transmit Disease
Food and Water Contaminated with Feces… A
main source of the Salmonella bacteria is dried
bird fecal dust entering buildings through air vents.
Inhalation of Fecal Dust… flu like respiratory
systems are caused by dust and airborne debris filled
with histoplamosis spores and related fungal agents
which are found in bird droppings.
Direct Contact with Feces… Infection can
occur at the site of an open wound or cut, or can
be carried through the blood stream via the cut
or wound area.
Physical Damage Caused by Birds Costs Millions
of Dollars Each Year…
Perhaps the most significant and expensive problem
associated with pest birds, however, is the physical
damage to buildings and machinery that is done by
their droppings and nesting materials. Bird droppings
are very acidic and can easily eat through metal,
paint, fabric, roofing material, plastic and other
very solid substances. Heavy concentrations of droppings
will cut the life expectancy of a tarred roof in
half, and will damage machinery and street lights
in just a few years. Droppings and nesting materials
will plug drains which can spell disaster if a warehouse
roof is allowed to gather just six inches of standing
water. Droppings which are deposited on floors are
very slippery, and can result in lawsuits filed
by people who are unfortunate enough to slip and
fall. Nesting materials have been known to start
fires in signs and machinery on a regular basis,
and interfere with the workings of all types of
tooling and machinery. In addition, bird nests are
commonly the reason for plugged up air-intake systems,
chimneys and exhaust systems.
